Any type of machinery benefits from regular maintenance. First and foremost, it’s about ensuring that you’re getting great efficiency and longevity out of your investment. In terms of your car, that also means good performance and responsiveness while you’re on the road. The older your vehicle gets, the more likely you’ll need to consider some engine repairs. But starting with quick engine maintenance should always come first.
Whether it’s time to repair or replace, we’re here to help. Worst case scenario, we’ll need to look into an engine replacement. But before it comes to that, we’re going to make sure you know exactly what’s going on and have the information you need to determine the next steps for your vehicle.
Dowdy’s Automotive is proud to be a truly local business. We’re owned by a husband-wife pair, and we’ve been serving the Treasure Valley for over 30 years—since 1986.
Our high-quality service has always set us apart. And today, we locally own and operate five different shops throughout the area. It’s more convenient than ever for our customers to get their service wrapped up ASAP.
It all starts with our goal of providing you with a same-day diagnostics report and service. Whenever possible, we’re going to run through that analysis right when you come into the shop. Then we’ll be able to assess your options and truly figure out the best course of action. Whether it’s installing new parts or wrapping up some routine maintenance, our experienced technicians can get the job done.
While the lifespan of timing belts can vary between manufacturers, there are still some standard suggestions. Most timing belts will need to be replaced every 60k to 90k miles or so. Usually, a quick visual assessment can determine whether a timing belt is failing. If the part is already showing signs of wear, though, it’s best to act fast. When in doubt, you might want to make an upgrade based straight off the manufacturer’s recommendations. A broken timing belt has the potential to not only damage your engine, but to leave you stranded at the worst possible moment. If in doubt, get it into the shop, and we can easily sort things out.
While different types of fuel systems work in their own ways, the general purpose is the same. It’s just about getting your car’s fuel to the engine.
Some gas engines use carburetors to bring both fuel and air into the engine. Those carburetors have valves to regulate the gas-to-air ratios, but most newer cars will have fuel injection instead. These systems tend to offer lower emissions and better fuel economy. And unlike carburetors, they work with a fuel pump inside the gas tank, along with a unique set of electronic sensors.
No matter what type of car our customers are driving, Dowdy’s Automotive can keep the fuel systems running smoothly. If your engine is starting to sputter, or you’re just having trouble starting the car, let us check things out. It might be time to take a look at your fuel system.
If your steering wheel is becoming harder to turn, or you’re hearing a new noise when turning, you might need to have your power steering system reviewed. The steering wheel connects to a gear that controls the movement of the car’s axles. This process uses a specific type of fluid and pump to apply pressure to that gear. This is another type of auto repair that’s closely tied to safety. You need to be able to respond quickly while on the road.
Sometimes it’s just a matter of removing the old fluid from your system. Just like an oil change for your engine, this fluid might need to get replaced with a new batch. But we may also need to install a clean pump or replace the hoses that supply the fluid.
Your technician will also check for any leaks that could be causing the steering fluid to drip. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call if your vehicle needs any power steering repair service. We’ll make sure to get it done right!
Scheduling an AC recharge or inspection is probably the best way to help stay cool in your car all summer long. Whether you’re just taking a quick drive down the road to the store or you’ve got plans for a long road trip, your air conditioning system is crucial for being comfortable—regardless of the temperature outside.
If your air conditioning hasn’t been able to keep up with combatting hot weather, just swing by the nearest Dowdy’s Automotive shop to have us run through an AC recharge. We’ll always want to consider the most cost-effective solution first. But if worse comes to worst, we can also handle full AC system repair as well. Let’s talk and figure it out. Then you’ll be all set for the season and the coming years.
Your cooling system—along with the radiator—work together to regulate the temperature under the hood of your car for the engine. If your car is overheating or it looks like there’s coolant leaking, you likely have an issue with the radiator or the cooling system as a whole.
Swing by our shop and we can look at fixing things up with a quick coolant or radiator flush. And if there ends up being a radiator fluid leak, we’ll take care of that so the problem doesn’t repeat itself. These minor repairs go a long way to keep your engine running at maximum efficiency.
For decades, Dowdy’s Automotive has been able to expand and open locations all throughout the Treasure Valley. But we’ve never lost our small-business focus and values.
We’re family-run and dedicated to giving our customers quality, cost-effective, and personalized service.
Whether you’ve lived in the area for years, or you’ve only moved here recently, we hope you’ll think of our team as your trusted, neighborhood auto shop. If you have any questions about our services, please don’t hesitate to reach out or swing by in-person to talk with our team!
