How to Get Your Vehicle Ready For Back-to-School Season
September 1, 2020
Summer is just about over, and it’s time to get into the swing of school! While the current COVID-19 pandemic has caused most schools to move to an online learning format, that doesn’t mean that you should neglect this prime time to get your vehicle in tip-top shape. Keep reading to see how to get your car in order for back-to-school season.
- Check headlights, taillights, and windshield wipers.
Your headlights and windshield wipers are integral to your visibility when driving. Though we’re currently at the tail end of the summer, soon enough rain, debris, and possibly snow will be in the works. Your taillights help others see you in those same conditions! Check that all your lights are in good working order, and that your wipers aren’t worn or cracked. If they are, get them replaced at a reputable auto repair shop like Dowdy’s Automotive.
- Schedule an annual brake inspection.
With such precious cargo, your family’s vehicle needs the ability to brake on a dime. Regular brake inspections are an absolute necessity, and a useful part of your car’s normal preventive maintenance. As your car’s most important safety feature, having brakes in good working order is paramount to your family’s safety. Schedule an annual brake inspection with Dowdy’s Automotive, and get them in tip-top shape!
- Check tires for inflation and wear.
Your tires are equally as important as your brakes, as an improperly inflated tire can wreak havoc on your vehicle. To avoid your tires from taking on excessive wear and damage, ensure that they are inflated to the correct PSI for your make and model. You’ll also want to perform a simple visual check of your tires to ensure they don’t have uneven wear and tear and a high enough tire tread. Check out the penny test for this, or give Dowdy’s Automotive a call, and they can check it for you!
- Check out your seatbelt situation.
With growing kids, it’s normal for seat belt adjustments to become necessary. With smaller children this is especially true, as they quickly grow out of their car and booster seats, which sometimes require seat belt adjustments. Check that those booster and car seats aren’t damaged, and that they are installed correctly and according you’re their instructions.
- Look into scheduling an appointment with Dowdy’s Automotive to go over your preventive maintenance schedule.
There are so many different things to go over and check when you get your vehicle ready for going back to school.
